报告题目:Versatility of titania: from transparent to colored and black films

人:翁明寿

报告时间:12月3日(周二)15:00─16:30

报告地点:理学院418会议室

要:As a versatile multifunctional material, titania has been widely used and investigated due to its combination of outstanding properties for numerous applications in conventional and high-tech industries, in which photocatalysis of titania for clean energy and environment has drawn the most attention. Titania (anatase) is the best photocatalyst under UV light irradiation, but not under solar or visible light. Therefore, lots of efforts were made to modify titania to increase its optical absorbance in the visible region and other aspects to enhance its overall photocatalytic performance. The modifications include defected TiO2, anion- and cation-doped TiO2, mesoporous TiO2and black hydrogenated TiO2, some of which have exhibited exceptional photocatalytic properties under solar light. Most literature on recently reported black TiO2is in powder form and relatively few on thin film black TiO2. The particles of black TiO2powder are usually in a core-shell structure of amorphous shell and crystalline core, but little is known about the structure and composition of thin film black TiO2. Synchrotron radiation was used for identifying the phases present in a series of sputtered hydrogenated titania films, and with increasing hydrogenation, anatase- defective rutile transformation, with further amorphization and transformation into intermediate Ti oxides were observed. Nevertheless, the black films resembling the shell of core-shell black titania particles are inferior photocatalytically to transparent titania. In contrast, thin film black H-TiO2-x samples with the enhanced photocatalytic performance were successfully prepared by hydrogen plasma treatment of pure titania film. The black titania film is an ensemble of gradiently hydrogen-and self- (oxygen vacancies) doped layer of H-TiO2-x with a limited thickness on a crystalline TiO2inner layer. The differences of different black titania materials of various sources are compared and discussed and a new description of black titania is presented.

报告人简介:Dr. Wong has been a professor in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) in Taiwan since 1997. During his twenty plus years tenure with the University he served as the founding chairman of Institute and Department of MSE (1997-2002), as dean of the college of science and engineering in 2003-6 and as university vice president in 2015-6. Before joining NDHU He had worked for two years (1987-9) at Materials Research Center of Northwestern University in USA as a post-doc working on diamond and DLC films, and then he joined Basic Industrial Research Lab. (BIRL) of Northwestern University as a scientist and a principal investigator (1989-97). He had co-established and managed an Industrial Group Program at BIRL to scale-up and to transfer the superhard coating technology for commercial applications. At NDHU he promoted and initiated several integrated education, research core facilities and research programs including the very successful programs on nanotechnology. He has pioneered the development of several novel thin films with exceptional properties, including carbon nitride, superhard nitride, oxide, carbide and hybrid superlattices, nanostructured carbon-based and BCN materials, and visible-light photocatalysts. He has authored or co-authored over 137 refereed journal SCI papers with a total citation over 6288 and an H-Index of 46 by Google Scholar. He also has over 200 conference presentations and holds 7 patents. He has organized or co-organized many technical meetings and workshops on nanotechnology, photocatalytic materials and hard/superhard coatings. He was the founding President (1999-2001) of Taiwan Association for Coating and Thin Film Technology.
